Biography

Veryeri Alaca received her BFA in Painting from Mimar Sinan University in İstanbul. She then worked on her Master's degree at California State University in Studio Arts. In 1999, she received a scholarship from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for a Master of Fine Arts degree in Art and Design. While working on her MFA degree, she taught Basic Drawing and Intaglio courses. She then worked on a PhD degree at Hacettepe University, Department of Fine Arts, focusing on the synthesis of intaglio print process with the marbleizing technique. She has participated in exhibitions in the United States, Italy, Georgia, Turkey, Germany, Poland and Bulgaria. Veryeri has received the 64th State Competition and 30th DYO Competition Printmaking awards. In 2005, Dr. Louis A. Zona, director of the Butler Institute of American Art, awarded her work entitled "The War of Water" at the 21st Annual Juried Exhibit of National Collage Society.

Her work has been included in university collections such as that of California State University (Janet Turner Museum), University of Texas at Austin and İstanbul Bilgi University. She is also represented at various museums in Italy, Poland, Georgia and Turkey, including at the Museum of Painting and Sculpture (İstanbul). She has taught at UIUC (USA), Bilkent University (Ankara) and the University of Richmond (USA). Currently, she is a faculty member at Koc University. She has published and presented at international conferences on issues such as artist residencies, book arts, printmaking, art and design education, cultural connections, cultural heritage and creativity.
